Back in March 2020, during the “shelter-in-place” mandate, I was cleaning my apartment one day when I came across a photo album that my father had given me years ago. I had tucked it away and had forgotten all about it. On the cover was a picture of my paternal Great Grandparents dated 1912:
Not only did this photo album have pictures, but it had letters, lots of them.
From my Great Grandma Katie, dated 1970 (the year I was born):
“I was born in 1893- and to have known San Francisco in the horse and buggy age; then to have looked down on it from a hilltop while flames were rising high from its buildings. Then to have walked through its ashes after the 1906 earthquake….“
I just read these letters and thought, “I have to write a show about this!”
“All The Great New Things To Come” – a show about being a fourth generation Bay Area native.
