I, for one, am glad that the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t win another Super Bowl. No one likes the teams who become dynasties. I remember when everyone hated the 49ers back in the day, or more recently the Warriors. However, it’s different when you’re on the winning side of the dynasty.

Super Bowl XVI was the first Super Bowl I remember. I was in the sixth grade and the 49ers were playing the Cincinnati Bengals. I was at my friend Alicia’s house, and we were roller skating throughout the neighborhood and could hear all the cheering going on. Everyone was happy. I was also a Pop Warner cheerleader at the time, so I was learning all about the sport.

This got me thinking about the history of football. Did my ancestors ever watch sports?

According to this timeline, my Great Grandpa Ed died before the Super Bowl was invented. It was never a part of his world. While his wife, my Great Grandma Katie, lived long enough to see the first eight Super Bowls in her lifetime. Although I doubt, she cared about such things. Not everyone cares about or understands sports.

That’s okay mom. Football is not for everyone.
