Genealogy Project

This evening, Keesa the cat decided to get involved in my genealogy project.

I should have known better to leave binders of genealogy paperwork out for her to crawl up on.

Which reminds me, happy 128th birthday Great Grandpa Florencio!

Tonight, I started to dig a little deeper into my Grandma Gerry’s father’s side – The Nobles. Most of them stayed in the Midwest except my Great Grandfather James Edward Noble, who came to San Francisco, I believe somewhere in the early 1900s. I thought he was the only Noble to do so, but a couple of his other siblings headed to the West Coast as well. Then I read that his sister, Mary, died in San Francisco two months shy of her 30th birthday!

I don’t know the circumstances behind her death. My grandmother only wrote that her aunt “died when we lived in Stockton“. Stockton is where my grandmother’s family lived temporarily during her early childhood before moving back to the Bay Area.

I did find Mary’s Obituary in the San Francisco Chronicle. It’s a little hard to read:

Too young, too soon.

Settling In

Today was a long day. After work I drove down to Redwood City for my acting class through BraveMaker. Even though I am still a little under the weather, nothing will wake me up more than improv games and scene readings. I wish I could do creative work all the time. It’s when I feel the most alive.

Then I drove to Keesa’s house, where I’ll be staying for a few weeks.

Keesa

Yes it’s her house and I’m just living in it.

I usually don’t blog from my phone, but it’s late, I’m tired, and the cat beckons me.

Day 288 – Achievement Unlocked

I was feeling pretty lazy today. I did some laundry but didn’t feel like doing much else. I managed to muster up the energy to capture the sunset:

Then I drove over to Fourth Street in Berkeley which is lit up so pretty this time of year:

I picked up a mocha and strolled the block, ran into a friend and chatted awhile.

Then I went back to my cat sitting lair and after settling in for the night, a new level of achievement was unlocked:

Say Hello To My Little Friends

This was the first time both cats felt safe enough to share the bed with me. Ironically, it’s my last night here before their mom comes home. But hey, when you’re a professional cat-nanny, you gotta play the long game. It requires patience, but if you build a environment of trust, they will come.

My work here is done.

Day 273 – Other People’s Felines

Tonight is my final night taking care of this girl:

Keesa the Cat

However, her sister, Faux Paw, isn’t as social and doesn’t pose for pictures.

As I type this, it’s pouring rain outside against the bedroom window. RAIN. We don’t get a lot of rain around these parts, hence the California wildfires. Unless you count that one time back in the Spring of 2011. It rained so much that year that I got used to it. And that never happens.

Also today I got a wreath for my apartment door. I hope no one steals it:

Merry Christmas!

Oh, and I went to the dentist today and it went a little something like this:

DENTAL ASSISTANT: This should only take a minute (jams retainer in my mouth)

ME: Owwww! (pulls retainer out of mouth)

DENTAL ASSISTANT: I’ll be right back.

That’s right. I got fitted for a retainer, but not like the kind we used to wear back in the day, but a very specific plastic retainer that is in the shape of my teeth. And I gotta tell you, it was a bit too snug at first. My teeth are even a little sore still. So the dental assistant stretched it out and then put it in warm water. That made it easier, but I am still a bit nervous about wearing it to bed every night. I am a big baby when it comes to pain.

Tomorrow I have to move out of this three level “house on the hill” and head back down to the flats. It will be good to be home for a few days, before I head out to my next cat-nanny gig. Hey, it wouldn’t be the holidays without me snuggling up to other people’s felines.

It just wouldn’t.

Day 264 – The Cat Nanny Diaries

Dear Diary,

It was fun watching Pearl the cat last week, and now tonight, I moved in with Keesa and Faux.

Keesa

Faux not pictured. She was having a bit of a ‘tude tonight.

Diary, Faux eats all the food, but she is still so skinny. I hope she’s not bulimic. Keesa is a more fussy eater, but look at those curves. More to love.

I haven’t watched these girls in quite awhile. The owner replaced the carpet with wood floors and now all I hear is the clickety clack of their paws claws as they wander through the house…..back and forth…..up and down the stairs….

In other news, Diary, look who was showing off tonight….
