Day 239/240 -The Weekend

I totally forgot to blog last night.

I guess I was so busy having a good day it completely slipped my mind. But also, Saturday Night Live got delayed and it completely threw me off my schedule!

Yesterday I woke up at 8:27am to news radio and the announcer said: “Just a few minutes ago both CNN and CBS projected Joe Biden as the winner of the election.”

Shortly after that I begin to hear celebratory howling in my neighborhood. As I walked down to my local Starbucks to get my morning coffee, I saw a young woman ringing a cowbell and heard a car blasting loud music “F*** Trump!” It wasn’t even 9am. Aw man, Oakland is gonna be lit today!

But I had much to do yesterday and couldn’t make it down to Lake Merritt until after 4pm where folks were having an impromptu parade with people in cars honking their horns and others cheering with signs:

Someone on Twitter posted video footage of a person dressed up as a USPS mailbox dancing in the streets. I haven’t seen Oakland this happy since the last Warriors parade.

But even with all this celebration, half the nation still doesn’t get why so many African Americans do not like Donald Trump. They cling to the exceptions to the rule – “Diamond and Silk“, “Candace Owens” and “Insert random rapper here“. As if those people are the chosen enlightened few and everyone else just doesn’t get it. That’s like saying the majority of African Americans don’t know what racism is. That is so unbelievably arrogant. Some people will choose “policy” and “the economy” over loving other people. They will choose the “law of the land” and “the love of money” rather than deal with other peoples’ oppression. They love laws more than they love people.

But enough of my soapbox. Saturday was a good day. I wrote a good amount for my solo performance class that I had today on Zoom. I’m gonna write for two more weeks before memorizing the script. I am not used to cutting it this close before a performance, but I trust the process.
