I was up extra early this morning to look for a geocache after the atmospheric river finally left Oakland.
Sunshine!
I walked past the towering Cathedral of Christ the Light Church….
I remembered from my research that this new church absorbed the parish of the old St. Mary’s Church in West Oakland after it closed. St. Mary’s Church is where mis abuelos were married.
Grandma Esther and Grandpa Charlie – 1942

After finding the geocache I went back to my apartment. Later on, I received this text from my mother:
I found two draft cards for my Great Grandpa Florencio for WW1 & WW2:

What struck me about this, is that he was 44 years old during the WW2 draft. I didn’t know they drafted middle aged men, so I did some digging:
After Pearl Harbor the age range expanded to 18-64! Wow!
And then I remembered my Great Grandpa Ed’s WW1 Draft Card:
He was 42 years old during the WW1 Draft!
The Third Draft Registration:
I look at these past generations and think, “these people were amazing.”
